Guglielmo Malato was born in Pesaro in 1932. He attended the "F. Mengaroni" Art Institute in Pesaro and took his diploma as the school best student. In 1951 the famous architect Giò Ponti invited him to exhibit 35 ceramic works in the hall of honour of the "Triennale" art exhibition in Milan, together with important artists such as L. Fontana, L. Lunardi, A. Cascella, and others. In 1952 Guglielmo Malato started to teach at the "Passaglia" Art Institute in Lucca; at the same time he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence under the guidance of the Italian master Ottone Rosai.

In 1983 Sandro Pertini, President of the Italian Republic at that time, confered him the honour of "Cavaliere Ufficiale della Repubblica" with silver medal for cultural and didactical merits. Later he became headmaster of the Art School in Lucca and Art Institutes in Pisa, Pietrasanta and Pistoia. Malato received many important praises and awards both as a ceramist and as a painter. We can find his works in various important museums such as the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, the International Museum of Craftworks in Florence, the National Museum of Ceramics in Pesaro, the Gallery of Modern Art in Lucca and the Town Museum in Barga.
